Rice Terraces of Isarigami

Rice Terraces of Isarigami

One of the "100 best rice terraces of Japan"

Located in the Isarigami District, the rice terraces designated as one of the "100 best rice terraces of Japan" are spread across the foot of Mt. Sengamine and are separated by stone walls, which is a rare sight in Japan. The stone walls were stacked around the 13th century. One can imagine the hardships of the predecessors when seeing the rice terraces carved on the slope of the mountain, and the original landscape of Japan invites nostalgia. The Isarigami District features a rice terrace owner system in order for people to experience the fun of growing rice and cooperate in the preservation of the historic scenery.
